From Quiet Coastline to Emerging Economic Force

For decades, Guyana lived quietly on the northern edge of South America — known for its rainforests, rivers, and rare biodiversity rather than for rapid growth. That changed in 2015, when the discovery of vast offshore oil reserves set the country on a remarkable new trajectory.
An Economy Accelerating
Since production began in 2019, the nation has seen unprecedented expansion. GDP surged by nearly 58% in 2022, followed by more than 43% in 2024, with strong double-digit growth projected into 2025. Oil output exceeded 645,000 barrels per day in 2024 and approached 900,000 in 2025.
ExxonMobil's Defining Role
ExxonMobil has placed Guyana at the centre of its global deepwater strategy. Four FPSOs — Destiny, Unity, Prosperity, and Yellowtail — now operate in the Stabroek Block, tapping into more than 11 billion barrels of recoverable resources. This shift elevated GDP per capita from under $7,000 in 2020 to more than $20,000 by 2023, with further growth ahead. Oil now makes up over 70% of national exports.
A Nation Recognised
With revenues rising, the government has expanded investment in infrastructure, public services, and poverty reduction. International institutions — including the IMF and World Bank — have repeatedly named Guyana the world's fastest-growing economy.
Promise and Precaution
Projections suggest production could reach 1.3 million barrels per day by 2027 and up to 1.7 million by 2030, positioning Guyana among the highest oil producers per capita worldwide. Yet the path forward requires balance: diversifying the economy, managing new wealth responsibly, and strengthening institutions to avoid the familiar risks of resource-driven growth.
Tourism Rising in Parallel
Alongside energy, tourism is gaining momentum. Visitor arrivals hit 371,000 in 2024 (up 16.3%) and grew another 18% in early 2025. Domestic tourism expanded by nearly 50%, reflecting a broader appetite for local experiences.
Improved air connectivity and airport upgrades are opening the country to new types of travellers — from business delegates to wellness-focused guests. This creates space for eco-living retreats and sustainable real-estate developments that combine conservation, wellness, and emerging technologies.

Guyana's Digital Transformation

Eco Living Properties and Digital Guyana are integrating thoughtful digital design into Guyana’s growing technological landscape—shaping tools that feel natural, clear, and welcoming to all.
Why Digital Design?
Digital design is more than appearance. It is the discipline of crafting interactions that soften complexity and make technology intuitive. Effective user behaviour arises from intention—from an understanding of how people think, move, and navigate the world.
Design That Drives Efficiency
A refined user experience reduces friction, lowers cognitive load, and helps users complete tasks with ease. It also builds trust; when technology behaves predictably, people return, participate more fully, and share it with others. This trust becomes vital as Digital Guyana expands and aims to include more of the nation in its digital story.
Lowering Barriers, Encouraging Adoption
In emerging markets, simplicity is essential. Good design connects advanced systems—AI workflows, digital services, national platforms—with interfaces that feel effortless. When technology is intuitive, users shift from passive consumers to confident contributors.
A Quiet Foundation for Progress
Prioritizing digital design is fundamental to Digital Guyana’s evolution. By creating tools that are accessible and thoughtful, we help foster meaningful engagement and steady, sustainable growth in the country’s digital economy.
